Is the gap between young and old demographics growing?

The gap between young and old is growing, according to transgenerational.org. Experts expect the population of those 65 and over to grow to 19 percent by 2030. They attribute the rapid growth to the aging of Baby Boomers who were born between 1946 through 1964 paired with increased life expectancies.

Declining fertility and lower birth rates worldwide contribute to the generational gap. The United States Census Bureau notes that as of 2016 one out of every eight Americans is considered old. Experts predict the increase in life expectancy to continue, with the decline in the number of young people automatically increasing the gap.
