Does a gas cooktop need a gas line?
By Forinfos - 06/06/2025 - 0 comments
As with any gas appliance, a gas supply line is required for operation of a gas cooktop, stove or oven. The number of burners determines the diameter needed.
The average gas cooktop requires approximately 45 cubic feet of gas per hour, which can be supplied using a half-inch gas line. This diameter is rated for up to 56 cubic feet per hour, which is slightly more than necessary, but an overage does not negatively impact the performance of the burners. If anything, the extra capacity ensures that proper function is maintained, even if all burners are engaged at the same time.
