Is a gas stove or an electric stove more efficient?

When compared in terms of energy efficiency, a gas stove is much more efficient than an equivalent electric stove. This results in a gas stove costing a user much less to run than an electric one.
A gas stove works by converting chemical energy stored in gas into thermal energy through combustion. While some energy is lost as light and sound energy, this is a rather efficient process. Electric stoves use electric energy that has been produced inefficiently at a power station, and is then subject to other inefficiencies, such as transmission loss on the way a building. The most efficient kind of gas stove is one that uses an electric igniter rather than a pilot light.
