Who gave the Statue of Liberty to the United States?

The Statue of Liberty was given to United States by France. It was originally named "Liberty Enlightening the World." It was created by the French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi.

The statue weighed 204 metric tons and was 151 feet in height. Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, who owned the company renowned for designing and building the Eiffel Tower, designed the steel framework of the statue.

On June 19, 1885, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor and was erected on Liberty Island. The statue was meant to celebrate the lasting friendship between the U.S. and France, as well as represent the enduring concepts of freedom and democracy.
