GE water heaters are manufactured by General Electric Appliances, a division of General Electric, an American multinational conglomerate. The GE GeoSpring Hybrid water heater, for example, is built by General Electric.

The company was formed in 1892 by the merger of Thomas Edison's General Electric Company with the Thomson-Houston Electric Company. Initially a power-generation company, it has retained ties to energy, oil, water and gas management. It has also expanded to appliance and lighting manufacturing, as well as providing services in the financial, health care and transportation sectors. General Electric saw global 2013 earnings of approximately $16.9 billion. The company is headquartered in Fairfield, Connecticut, with branches in more than 170 countries.
