The New York Times reports that as of May 30, 2014, a generic version of the painkiller Celebrex, has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Celebrex is used to treat pain, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis among other conditions.
The pharmaceutical company Pfizer manufactures Celebrex, the brand-name version of celecoxib, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Celebrex is known to cost between $60 and $300 per month, as of October 2014, but generic drugs typically cost between 30 and 80 percent less.
