Caracas is the capital city of Venezuela and can be found in the country's central northern region. It is located approximately 15.5 miles from the Caribbean coast and the port of La Guaira. The city is located in the Caracas Valley, which is part of Venezuela's coastal mountain range.

The city of Caracas spreads over approximately 167 square miles and sits at an average elevation of 3,000 feet. The city was founded on July 25, 1567, by Captain Diego de Losada of Spain. As of 2014, the capital city region of Caracas has a population of 2,013,366 and a population density of 12,040 people per square mile.
