The Congo Basin, the sedimentary basin of the Congo River, is in western equatorial Africa. The Congo River's vast drainage area includes almost all of the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, western Zambia, northern Angola and portions of Cameroon and Tanzania.
The Congo Basin is larger than 1.3 million square miles. This area is home to some of the largest undisturbed stands of tropical rainforest on the planet as well as several large wetlands. The basin ends where the river empties into the Gulf of Guinea, a part of the Atlantic Ocean.
