The country of Greece is located in south-central Europe and to the east of Italy. It is bordered by Albania, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north and juts out into the Mediterranean Sea.
Greece is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa, which aided the nation greatly throughout its ancient history. Greece also has other territories, mostly islands, including the larger island of Cyprus, which lies in the Mediterranean directly to the south of Greece.
