The climate of Madagascar is generally temperate in the inland region, arid in the south and tropical in the coastal areas. The country experiences two major seasons: rainy and dry. The rainy season is hot and occurs between November and April while the dry season is cooler and occurs in May through October.
The coast along the eastern side of Madagascar has some of the hottest, most humid temperatures. This area generally experiences the heaviest rainfall, and can see 137.8 inches of rain each year. The east coast also experiences some of Madagascar's most destructive hurricanes. The higher elevations of this island tend to be cooler and drier.
