Where is Sierra Leone?

Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa. Sierra Leone neighbors the countries of Guinea and Liberia. The North Atlantic Ocean borders the southern and western parts of Sierra Leone for approximately 250 miles.

Sierra Leone has a varied geography consisting of mangrove swamps along the coast, lowland plains, plateaus, forests and mountains. The country covers a total area close to 28,000 square miles, which is slightly smaller than South Carolina, and is the 119th largest country in the world as of 2014. The capital and largest city is Freetown, situated along the country's northwestern North Atlantic coast. Sierra Leone has an estimated population of over 5.7 million as of 2014.
