The George Foreman Grill was patented on March 4, 1997 by inventor Michael Boehm and engineer Robert Johnson. It is an indoor grill with dual cooking positions, tilt and horizontal, and can cooks five servings on both sides simultaneously. The grill’s slope design removes fat content and makes cleaning convenient.
The grill was manufactured by Salton Inc., which is currently known as Spectrum brands, and initially promoted unsuccessfully at industry trade shows. In 1994, Salton changed the marketing strategy, and the grill was re-introduced as the “Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine†through late-night infomercials, which featured boxing champion George Foreman and became a household success.
