What is a German spitz?

The German spitz is a breed of dog that has two subtypes: the klein and the mittel. The klein is a smaller variation that reaches 11.5 inches, while the mittel can grow up to 15 inches tall.

This breed originated in Germany and was popular among British citizens by the 1700s. A long-lived breed, they have a lifespan of 14 to 18 years. The medium-long coat sheds little and generally only needs to be brushed once a week. Combined with their ease of digestion, their coats make them a low-maintenance breed. German spitz dogs are friendly, high-energy and have a low-level of aggression.
