What is the gestation period of a sheep?
By Forinfos - 24/07/2025 - 0 comments
The gestation period for a sheep is between 145 and 155 days. After that, the ewe gives birth to a lamb that can weigh up to 8 pounds. Shortly after birth, lambs are strong enough to begin grazing with the flock.
Breeding season begins in the early fall and lasts through winter. Female sheep normally breed once or twice a year.
Lambs rely on their mothers' milk for the first two to three months of their lives. They reach puberty at 5 to 8 months of age. At maturity, sheep can weigh anywhere from 90 to 300 pounds. Mature males are called rams and mature females are called ewes.
