The Giant Forest is located within California's Sequoia National Park. Visitors to the Giant Forest can access more than 40 miles of hiking trails that wind through a forest consisting of some of the world's largest and oldest trees.
There are some individually famous trees within the Giant Forest. For example, a tree named General Sherman was determined in 1931 to be the largest known living organism in the world, with a base of more than 36 feet wide. The next largest tree in the Giant Forest is a sequoia that is estimated to be more than 3,000 years old. It is named General Grant.
