According to tradition, Balthazar brought the gift of myrrh to baby Jesus. Balthazar was one of the three wise men who followed a star to the place where the baby Jesus was born.
While the Bible does not talk about the actual names of the three wise men who paid a visit to Jesus at the time of birth, certain traditional stories do. These stories claim that the names of the three men were Melchior, who was a Persian scholar, Casper, who was an Indian scholar, and Balthazar, who was an Arabian scholar. The gift of myrrh brought to Jesus by Balthazar was symbolic of the death he would later have to face.
