How do you give yourself a crew cut?

To give yourself a crew cut, you need a clipper with various guards. Start at the bottom of the head, and use various clipper guard sizes to create a gradual fade along the sides and back of the head. Create a similar fade that begins at the front and thins as you cut toward the crown.
- Pick a style
Browse through examples of various crew cuts on hairstyling sites and search engines. Select a style that best suits your tastes and features the amount of hair that you would like to leave on your head.
- Cut the sides and back
Attach a guard to your hair clipper that is 1/8 inch in size or lower, and cut the hair that is located on the bottom of the sides and back of your head. Stop at the halfway-point, and switch to either a 1/4-inch guard or a 1/2-inch guard. Cut the remaining hair on the sides and back of your head to finish the fade.
- Cut the top
Start at the front of the head, and cut toward the crown in horizontal sections. If you want a shorter cut, use the number six guard in your kit for the front of the head, and use the number two guard for the crown. If you want a longer cut, use the number 12 guard in your kit for the front of the head, and use the number four guard for the crown.
