What is glaucoma laser treatment used for?

Glaucoma laser treatment is used when glaucoma continues to worsen even after treating it with medicine, according to WebMD. Older adults may require laser treatment if they are not able to take certain medicines. Laser treatment is usually preferable over other surgical procedures.
Laser treatment reduces pressure in the eye by treating the drainage angle, notes WebMD. This treatment allows fluid to drain properly from the front of the eye. Laser treatment decreases pressure in the eye approximately 75 percent of the time if the patient has not had previous eye surgery. After the laser treatment, medicine is usually still required to keep pressure down in the eye.
