Laser peripheral iridotomy is used to correct angle closure glaucoma, according to the Digital Journal of Ophthalmology. This type of treatment lowers the pressure inside the eyeball and helps prevent another attack of angle closure glaucoma.
During the operation, the laser makes a tiny opening in the colored part of the eye, or the iris, which lets the fluid drain from the eye and lowers the intraocular pressure, explains the Digital Journal of Ophthalmology. However, the treatment may not restore vision that has already been lost, depending on how severe the attack of angle closure glaucoma was and how long it lasted.
