Glucose, sometimes referred to as dextrose, is among the main molecules that provide energy for both plants and animals. It is a carbohydrate and simple sugar or monosaccharide.
Glucose is naturally occurring in many foods, and is used in the cells as a source of energy.
The term "blood sugar" refers to the glucose in the bloodstream while glucose in plants is synthesized via photosynthesis and stored in the sap. When blood sugar is at a concentration of less than 70 milligrams per deciliter, a number of negative symptoms can result, ranging from anxiety to seizures and coma. This is called hypoglycemia or insulin shock and is commonly treated with glucose tablets or high-glucose foods.
