What do goats eat?

Goats are herbivores that consume a wide variety of plant materials ranging from grass to twigs, and woody stems. In the wild, goats are foragers similar in dietary habits to deer. However, they mainly rely upon leafy greens for nutrition.
Goats graze upon an eclectic mix of plants if allowed to roam freely. Farmers may give their goats grain or hay when fresh grazing material is not available. Grain feeds are nutritional mixes similar in nature to the kibble given to household pets. However, grain is not as easily digested by goats as fresh plants. Grazing goats are more flexible in their habits than sheep, but not as efficient at consuming grass.
