What is a good bait to use in rabbit traps?

Leftover produce from a kitchen is good bait for a rabbit trap. Fruits and vegetables, such as overripe bananas and carrots, apple cores and leafy greens are especially enticing to rabbits.

As herbivores, rabbits generally consume weeds, flowers, seeds, fruits and vegetables in their habitat. For best results, trappers should place bait in areas without an abundance of the rabbits' natural foods. Likewise, they can set traps when food is scarcer, such as during a drought or in winter.

If the bait is unsuccessful, trappers can try using fresh produce without brown spots or strong odors. Sometimes it is necessary to mask the human scent from bait by spraying the entire trap with apple cider.
