What are some good flood deck stains?

Good flood deck stains contain ultraviolet protection and a moisture barrier. For durability, a water-based stain in a solid color lasts longer and is easier to care for than an oil-based stain.

Light-colored stain does show more of the wood's texture, but a darker stain typically has more ultraviolet protection so it does not fade as quickly. A good stain is resistant to any kind of condensation and prevents moisture-related cracking. Water-based stain is also better at combating many kinds of abrasions.

Replace any damaged wood before applying stain. Sand down the surface of the wood before application. Ensure any old stain is removed as well.
