What is a good way to clean granite countertops?

To clean a granite countertop, dust the surface of the countertop, spray it down with water, and wipe it with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Use a neutral-pH stone cleaner to remove normal stains, and make and use a homemade poultice to eliminate any remaining oil-based stains.

1. Dust the surface of the granite countertop

   Use a microfiber cloth to remove any loose dirt or debris from the surface of the countertop.

2. Spray the granite countertop with water

   Use a spray bottle filled with water to saturate the top of the countertop.

3. Wipe the countertop with a clean, dry microfiber cloth

   Use a clean, dry microfiber rag to remove the water and any surface stickiness from the countertop.

4. Apply a neutral-pH stone cleaner to the countertop

   Spray a soft, steady stream of a commercial neutral-pH stone cleaner to the countertop. Use warm water to remove all of the neutral-pH stone cleaner from the countertop.

5. Make a homemade granite countertop poultice cleaner

   Mix 1 cup baking soda or all-purpose flour with 5 tablespoons of dishwashing detergent and about 1/4 cup of water in a small bowl until a thick paste forms.

   Pour the homemade deep cleanser over any greasy stains on the countertop. Use plastic wrap to keep the poultice over the stain overnight. Take the plastic covering off of the countertop, and use warm water to remove the poultice.
