What are good ways to care for a Caladium elephant ears plant?

Plant elephant ear tubers 2 to 4 inches deep in moist, fertile soil, preferably in partial shade. Be sure to plant the blunt end down. They can also be started indoors about two months before the last frost and then hardened off before transplantation in a permanent spot.
Elephant ears are low-maintenance plants, but they need regular watering during dry periods, especially if they are in pots. They are sensitive to freezes, so growers in climates with harsh winters must bring the plants indoors after the first frost. For plants not in containers, dig up the tubers, dry them out, and store them in a cool, dark area until planting time.
