As of 2015, Gordon Food Service has more than 170 brick-and-mortar stores in 10 states. Shoppers can use the GFS online catalog to create a shopping list of items in the local store.
In 1897, Isaac Van Westenbrugge started delivering butter and eggs by horse and wagon to grocers in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and opened his first store in 1905. When Isaac retired in 1942, his son-in-law Ben Gordon reorganized the business and named it Gordon Food Service. By the end of the 20th Century, it had become the largest family-owned food service distributor in North America, with locations in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Florida.
