What does the Army clothing allowance cover?

As of 2014, the Army clothing allowance covers the initial uniform for newly enlisted personnel, replacement pieces for uniform items that wear out and special uniform items required for unusual duties. The initial clothing allowance is issued upon enlistment, and replacement allowances are issued each month.

Extra clothing allowances are issued on a case-by-case basis, and personnel may need to fill in a special form in order to apply for one. These allowances cover uniform items that are necessary for unique circumstances and non-standard duties. They may also cover the purchase of civilian clothes if they are needed to perform assigned military duties.
