What are the different types of writs?
By Forinfos - 25/05/2026 - 0 comments
The most common writs include prerogative writs, subpoenas and warrants. Writs are formal written orders issued by a court to execute a judgment.
The types of writs and the way they are used may differ from one state to another. Prerogative writs are a subclass of writs that take precedence over other writs in a court case. These include habeas corpus, prohibito, quo warranto, procedando, mandamus and certiorari writs. Other types of writs exist, and they may address issues such as seizure of private property, arrests, restraining a defendant from fleeing the country, summoning jurors to appear to court and more.
