What are green Depression glass plates?

During the Great Depression in the U.S., manufacturers of glassware produced items that were brightly colored as an easy and affordable way to offer a little cheer to their consumers. Among the most popular colors was green, now known as green Depression glass.

Depression glassware was poorly made and often handed out for free. Food companies included glass pieces in their packages as a means to entice buyers, and businesses handed them out to customers for walking in the door. Since the 1960's, the popularity of Depression glass has increased and original pieces have become collectibles. Other popular colors of the era include pale blue, pink and amber.
