A congregation refers to a group of alligators, where the smaller alligators are compliant to the biggest, most dominant alligator. A group of newly hatched alligators, or juveniles, is referred to as a pod.
Large male alligators are extremely territorial and would rather live on their own. Smaller alligators are more likely to be found in large numbers in close proximity to each other.
Alligators are only indigenous to China and the United States. The endangered Chinese alligators can only be found in the Yangtze River valley. American alligators are found in the south east of the United States and live in freshwater environments, like swamps, wetlands, lakes, ponds, rivers and marshes.
