Orangutans do not live in groups. Females usually have one or two babies with them, but males are found alone until they find a female to mate with. They stay with the female for a few days to be sure mating is successful, but then leave to be alone.
Orangutans can be found in Indonesia and Malaysia. They are classified as Great Apes along with gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos. Both male and female orangutans have long red hair, but males are larger than females. Males grow a beard and moustache when they reach adulthood. Wild orangutans live up to 45 years or more. They eat fruit, flowers, honey, bark, leaves and insects.
