How do you grout tile?

To apply grout, pour the grout on a small section of tile, and spread it with a float. Remove the excess material from the tile with the float, and then clean the flooring before applying a sealant. Most rooms can be grouted in a day.
- Pour premixed grout on the tile
Pour a quart of premixed grout on a 3- by 3-foot section of tile. Hold the grout float at a 45-degree angle, and spread the grout over the tile in a sweeping motion. Press the grout into the joints as needed. To remove excess grout, hold the float perpendicular to the floor, and work diagonally across the tiles.
- Clean the tiles
Allow the grout to harden for several minutes. Remove the remaining grout by cleaning the tile with a damp cloth or sponge. Do not clean the area between the tiles.
- Buff the floor
After allowing the grout to harden completely, use a damp sponge to remove the hazy film left after applying grout. Dry the tile with a soft cloth until the tile becomes shiny in appearance.
- Apply sealant
Apply grout sealant with a small brush. Use a damp cloth to remove any sealant that is brushed onto the surface of the tiles.
