To twist dreads, wash your hair with shampoo, and dry the hair. Add wax or little water, and twist sections of your hair with your fingers in a clockwise direction, then dry the hair. You need shampoo, a towel, hair bands, hair wax or water and a fine-toothed metal comb.
- Wash your hair
Wash your hair with shampoo, and rinse. Use a towel to dry your hair.
- Divide your hair
Divide your hair into equal strands, and hold the hair strands with hair bands. The roots of the hair strands should be outlined by a perfect square of exposed scalp when pulled.
- Twist the hair
Backcomb your hair if it's long and curly, or long and straight. To backcomb, hold the tip of the hair strand, and run the fine-toothed metal comb from the tip to the root of the hair until the strand is tangled and drawn toward the root. Repeat the same process for every strand. Add small amount of water or wax to one strand, and twist the strand tightly in a clockwise direction with your fingers. Repeat the same to every strand.
- Dry the locks
Dry the locks with an electric hair dryer. If you used wax, the electric dryer melts the wax into the locks.
