A guanabana, also known as a soursop, is the fruit of the guanabana tree, a broadleaf evergreen native to South and Central America and the Caribbean. The fruit has a spiny green skin, a soft white interior and a core of small black seeds.
The guanabana is similar in taste to the strawberry, pineapple, banana and coconut. The fruit is frequently used to make fruit smoothies, mixed juice drinks, sorbets and candies. Guanabana is also widely regarded for its medicinal properties. According to Psychology Today, extract from the guanabana has killed prostate, pancreatic and lung cancer cells in laboratory experiments.
