Where does guava come from?

Although its exact origin is debatable, it is believed that guava originated in an area that extends through Central America into southern Mexico. Nonetheless, guava is now found in nearly all tropical areas of the Americas and into the West Indies.

Tropical guava fruit grows best in the warm climates of coastal Southern California, Hawaii and Florida, and they can be pear-, ovoid- or round-shaped. The flesh of the guava can be red, yellow, pink or white, depending on its variety, and it generally contains a number of small seeds that are actually edible. Some guava can have more than 500 seeds per fruit.
