Some guidelines for participating in Urban chat assert that members must meet the minimum age requirement, refrain from harassment and offensive behaviors, refrain from circulating chain letters, respect the rights of others and honor copyrights when posting. Users must not post pictures or comments that are racist, pornographic or obscene.

Only adults who are age 18 or older may participate in Urban chat or its host company Mingle2. Users cannot post anything that violates the rights of any third parties, such as copyrights, trademarks or private information. Mingle2 does not allow users to ask for money, goods, services or donations in Urban chat. Users cannot post or provide their contact information, including email, messaging nicknames, phone numbers or their full names.
