What happened to 3D Doritos?

3D Doritos were launched in the early 2000s and were discontinued just a few years later. The maker of 3D Doritos, Frito-Lay, never gave a reason for why it discontinued this puffed triangle snack.
3D Doritos were like regular Dorito chips, but instead of being just triangular in shape, they were puffed up and took on a rounded shape with 3 corners. The inside of the 3D Doritos was hollow, filled with nothing but air. This meant that less 3D Doritos fit into a bag compared to a regular bag of Doritos chips. A commercial for 3D Doritos that featured Ali Landry and Sean Hayes from the show “Will and Grace†was shown during a Super Bowl.
