What happens if you don't have health insurance?

Those living in the United States who do not have health insurance are required to pay a fee or tax as penalty. The fee depends the income, the number of dependants and the year for which the person does not have health insurance.
The fee for not having health insurance is calculated in two ways, and the individual has to pay the higher amount. For 2014, the minimum penalty is $95 for a single person with an income less that $19,500. If the income is greater, or if the person has dependants, they have to pay a greater fee subject to a ceiling. The minimum fee, the percentage of income charged and the ceiling each increase every year.
