What happens when you mix salt and vinegar?

When salt and vinegar are mixed together, a chemical reaction takes place. The solid salt dissolves in the liquid vinegar, which is primarily water based. The mixture is commonly used as a home remedy for achy sore throats, cleaning and pest control.
Vinegar is most commonly used in cooking to season fried potato chips and French fries. Apple cider vinegar can contribute to lowering a person's glucose levels, increasing a person's metabolism, lowering unhealthy cholesterol levels and providing some relief for those suffering from arthritic pain. The mixture can also remove tarnish from a coin and some rust from objects.
