What happens when you put lemon juice in your hair?

Lemon juice is used to add or brighten highlights in hair. However, if too much is used, the acid from the juice may dry out the hair.
Lemon juice lightens best when sprayed in the hair before it is exposed to the sun. To prevent the concentration from being too strong, ELLE magazine recommends mixing 1/3 cup of lemon juice with 1 cup of chamomile tea, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of almond or coconut oil. Then the mixture is sprayed onto the areas where highlighting is desired. The longer the hair is in the sun, the lighter it becomes.
