What happens if you touch lovebird's eggs?
By Forinfos - 06/01/2026 - 0 comments
Nothing happens when a human simply touches a lovebird's eggs, although the handling of fertilized eggs should be minimized as it may cause unnecessary stress for the birds. The belief that a mother bird abandons her eggs if humans touch them is a myth.
Although most birds tolerate regular nest checks to see how their eggs are doing, too much human interference may cause the bird to abandon the nest out of stress or fear. Removing the eggs from the nest for too long or attempting other interventions, such as removing the chick from the egg, may cause the chick to die. Short-term removal from the nest for candling or other necessary interventions is usually safe.
