What hardware do you need to install an awning?

The hardware needed to install an awning varies according to the type of awning, but may include mounting brackets, lag bolts, washers, camel back brackets and machine screws. Installation also requires either a pre-formed mounting bar or mounting tabs.

An awning installation typically requires chalk to mark the height and pitch of the awning and to draw plumb lines. Use a stud finder to locate studs and a tape measure to locate the center of the awning and the door. Drill a series of holes to determine the center of the studs beneath the wall, and fill the holes with caulk afterwards to prevent weather damage. Use a level to determine placement of the awning and to make final adjustments.
