While it is not generally necessary to completely remove motorhome awnings before moving the vehicle, they should be put into the travel position. Failure to properly stow the awnings before driving the vehicle can result in damage to the vehicle or awnings due to high wind force.

There are two main types of awnings commonly found on motorhomes. The box awning can be rolled up into a special housing when moving the vehicle. Conventional awnings roll up in the same fashion, but are left exposed to the wind. The latter is the most common type of awning due to their less expensive price.
