The number of calories burned performing squats varies based on factors such as weight, intensity and repetitions performed, explains Health Research Funding. Diet & Nutrition states that the formula to calculate the number of calories burned per minute performing squats is (21 x kilograms of weight squatted) divided by 200.

Diet & Nutrition further explains that a 165-pound person squatting an additional 165 pounds is squatting a total of 330 pounds. To convert to kilograms, divide by 2.2. Thus, this person is squatting 150 kilograms. The calculation is then (21x150)/200, meaning that the person in this example is burning 15.75 calories per minute.
