What is the HEAP program?

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides assistance to individuals and families with their heating bills during the winter months. This program also offers emergency heating assistance to individuals who do not meet the income guidelines and are facing heating emergencies.

HEAP is available in several states and residents must meet certain criteria to become eligible for the program. The criteria may vary in each state, but to become eligible for the program, most states require individuals and families to fall at or below the federal poverty guidelines. If individuals do not qualify for the HEAP program, there are other heating assistance programs in many states such as the Contingency Heating Assistance Program for Connecticut residents.
