Appearing over 6,000 times in the Tanakh, YHVH is the most common name of God in the Hebrew language. The Tetragrammaton is a combination of four Hebrew letters says Hebrew for Christians.
Although the Tetragrammaton YHVH is the most common reference to God found in Hebrew text, other names for God exist in the Tanakh, such as Elohim, Elah, Sheddai, Adonai and Hakadosh. YHVH was translated later to Yahweh, a name reportedly made by transposing the position of the vowels inserted later. YHVH refers to the merciful and condescending God, while Elohim refers to God as the creator of all things.
