Herbs said to be good for menopause include black cohosh, vitex and dong quai, according to the National Institutes of Health, WebMD and About.com. However, the effectiveness of these herbs is uncertain as of 2015.
Black cohosh is native to North America, notes the NIH. Women use it to ease symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness and night sweats. Dong quai is a plant native to Asia, and women use its root to treat menopausal symptoms, explains WebMD. Studies do show that it has an effect on the female hormone estrogen, but positive testing has occurred only in animals. Vitex is an herb native to Asia and the Mediterranean, reports About.com.
