How high can fleas jump?

A flea can jump 100 times its own height, or approximately 13 inches. The force with which a flea accomplishes this jump is equal to 100 times the force of gravity.

Researchers found that to achieve the force needed to execute such a jump, fleas grip the ground surface with their toes and use them as levers for their legs, catapulting them at great force through the air. During one study, it was found that their take-off speed was 3 mph and that they accelerate to about 4.3 mph. A comparable jump for a human would be a 6-foot-tall person jumping over a 30-story building.
