What is a high MPV blood count?

A high MPV blood count is a blood test result indicating a higher volume of platelets, says WebMD. MPV is the mean platelet volume or total number of platelets in the body. This is a routine measurement included in most complete blood count tests.
The MPV is used to assist in the diagnosis of certain diseases, explains WebMD. HealthResearchFunding.org says an MPV count outside of the normal range indicates an underlying illness. MPV is used to help determine the prognosis for a patient who has suffered an acute stroke. A high MPV blood count does not indicate a favorable prognosis for acute stroke victims.
