Do Hindus eat pork?

Hindu scriptures do not condone the consumption of meat. Though not all Hindus adhere strictly to the guidelines, Hindu scripture prescribes a lifestyle of nonviolence, which includes not harming animals for food.

In fact, Hindus comprise the largest vegetarian population in the world. In the Hindu faith, consuming meat is not only generally frowned upon for its violation of spiritual well being, it is also not considered healthy. According to Hindus, maintaining a healthy body is the key to achieving spiritual enlightenment, which cannot be achieved through the consumption of things obtained through violence. However, Hindu leaders do not require vegetarianism a requirement of the Hindu faith.
